George Prokopiou acquires the Skaramangas Shipyards

The Skaramangas Shipyards are awarded to George Prokopiou for a total price of €62.5 million, as the Greek shipowner was declared the highest bidder in both tenders conducted by ETAD and ENAE.

More specifically, the Hellenic Public Properties Company (ETAD S.A.) announced that the Electronic Open Bidding Process for the sale of its property at the Skaramangas Shipyards was successfully completed today. The companies ‘MILINA ENTERPRISES COMPANY LTD’ and ‘PYLETECH INDUSTRIES MAE’ participated in the tender.

“According to the results of the tender and the decision of the CEO of ETAD, the final highest bidder was the company ‘MILINA ENTERPRISES COMPANY LTD,’ owned by Greek shipowner Mr. George Prokopiou, with a financial offer amounting to €37,316,041.88 — 21.5% higher than the starting price of the tender, which was €30.7 million.

Immediately after the completion of the tender process, the CEO of ETAD, Mr. Stefanos D. Vlastos, stated:

“Today, we at the Hellenic Public Properties Company have every reason to be proud, as we have successfully completed the tender process for the development of a landmark property of great national importance in a way that is highly beneficial to the Greek State and vital for the economic growth of our country.”

The thorough preparation and execution of this tender was a significant challenge, which we successfully met with a sense of responsibility toward the Greek taxpayer, operating with a focus on transparency, fairness, and sustainability. We remained committed to our goal, strictly adhered to the timelines we had set, and—with absolute respect and credibility toward the prospective investors—we managed to achieve a price higher than the starting value.

We hope that the success of this process will serve as a catalyst for the implementation of a significant investment in the coming years, which will act as a multiplier for the Greek economy and the country as a whole.

I would like to thank the ETAD team, which, with high professionalism, consistency, and efficiency, successfully carried out a particularly difficult project within a short period of time,” added the CEO of ETAD.

Mr. Vlastos also thanked all those who contributed to this national effort, making special mention of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Office of the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Development and Investments, the Governor of Attica, the relevant public services, and, finally, the constructive cooperation with Hellenic Shipyards S.A. (ENAE) under Special Administration

In conclusion, the CEO of ETAD wished the new investor every success, emphasizing that ETAD will stand as a supporter in his efforts for the successful implementation of his investment plans

“For my part,” Mr. George Prokopiou stated, “I would like to express my congratulations for the highly professional and, at the same time, transparent process of ETAD’s tender for the sale of Skaramangas.

It is worth noting that, in the tender for Hellenic Shipyards S.A., Pyletech Shipyards submitted a binding offer of €22.1 million, while Forest Grove, owned by George Prokopiou, submitted a binding offer of €25.2 million.

In its announcement, Pyletech states: ‘We are pleased that there are investors who intend to invest their money in Greece, especially in this high-risk sector. We wish them every success!

“Our investment plan included investments amounting to €700 million and would have created over 1,600 direct and 6,000 indirect jobs. We hope that the investments of the new, successful bidders will exceed ours and prove to be sustainable, for the benefit of Greece.

L.E.P. at the Syros Shipyard: Development is a Shared Responsibility

On June 17, representatives of the Piraeus Business Club toured the Syros Shipyards, owned by the ONEX Group of Mr. Panos Xenokostas, and held discussions on shipbuilding and repair with Mr. Vassilis Savvidis, General Manager of ONEX Neorion Shipyards.

During their extended discussion with Mr. Savvidis, Mr. Leoutsakos and Mr. Paraskevopoulos were briefed on the goals and business plan of ONEX Neorion Shipyards.

Mr. Savvidis emphasized firmly, that the environment and its protection, within the framework of sustainable development, has always been, is, and will remain the top priority. “The shipyard is a source of life for the island of Syros, not a force of destruction,” he stated. “We must do everything in our power to safeguard the environment and quality of life, while also ensuring job creation and supporting the growth of both the local economy and the maritime industry in our country.”

A second key topic discussed was the extensive repairs carried out on the shipyard’s docks and facilities, which are designed to align fully with the broader character and aesthetic of Ermoupoli.

During the discussion with Mr. Savvidis, personal views and reflections were also shared—grounded in real data and statistical evidence on issues affecting the broader Greek business community. “Greece’s economy has suffered numerous and varied setbacks over the past decades, with the pandemic marking a particularly severe blow. In an effort to boost tourism, we ended up neglecting and weakening the country’s industrial sector. However, when one pillar collapses, it drags the others down with it. The goal, therefore, must be the simultaneous development of both sectors.”

Visibly moved, Mr. Savvidis told the Club’s representatives that “ONEX Neorion Shipyards has taken on a personal mission: to establish an apprenticeship school for the youth of Syros, so that the shipyard can open its doors to younger generations and become a core hub of employment for the island’s young people.”

The Piraeus Business Club, whose mission is to collaborate with people and businesses across the country to build a shared vision and common goals, commended ONEX Neorion Shipyards for its initiatives, modernization efforts, and overall commitment. Many of the company’s actions and views align closely with the Club’s own philosophy. This recognition comes in light of the significant advancements in the shipbuilding industry and entrepreneurship.  by experts, not elites , in an effort to help Greece reclaim its rightful place on the global stage in this industry.

Finally, Mr. Leoutsakos and Mr. Paraskevopoulos emphasized that “this meeting served as a catalyst for action and future collaboration, as the development of our country is a collective effort—not an individual or purely local matter.”

Piraeus Business Club | Meeting with the Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs

On Wednesday, July 7, the President and Secretary of the Piraeus Business Club, Mr. Stavros Kasidiaris and Mr. Ioannis Leoutsakos, met with the Deputy Minister of Mercantile Marine and Island Policy, Mr. Kostas Katsafados. During the meeting, they presented their views on the development of the Piraeus Shipbuilding and Repair Zone.

Mr. Katsafados listened with interest to their proposals and, for his part, pledged to support any initiative that could contribute to the development of the Shipbuilding and Repair Zone, as well as to the overall progress of Piraeus.

A significant part of the discussion was dedicated to the possibility of establishing vocational schools focused on specialties relevant to the Shipbuilding and Repair Zone. The reason is the notable shortage of skilled and certified technicians, professionals who are essential to meet the expected rise in demand, driven by the upcoming operation of the Elefsina and Skaramangas shipyards.

Damaged PLC Inputs? FEMA ELECTRONICA has the answer

When a PLC breakdown occurs, the manufacturing process is affected. Many times we must stop the production process, hire external services from programmers, wait for the appropriate replacement…. Do you feel identified with this situations?

80% of failures occur at the I/O cards. Many risks are directed to these cards, since all the sensors are connected to them, and they distributed throughout the production site. Cables are subject to transients, overloads, electromagnetic interference, bad or poor ground connections… And I/O cards are the final link where noise is concentrated, a fact that can damage the cards.

Although in design phase the use of I/O cards dedicated to the signal is very convenient, as it allows direct input of the signal to the PLC, aspects such as the transport of the signal, the durability of the system, its maintenance, the diagnosis and possible effects on the installation where the application is finally installed must be taken into account.

In an application with temperature probes, for example, what happens in the path between the probe and the PLC? How is the mV or resistance signal affected when passing through the different rooms of the manufacturing site, or through the different machine circuits? Is the measurement accurate? Are noises coupling? And if I had to change the sensor, will I find a matching probe? Does the end user knows that the process will have to be stopped, and buy hours of programming to adapt of the program?

At our partner, FEMA ELECTRONICA, they have tried to facilitate the maintenance of machinery with versatile elements, without the need of software, without accessories, and that can also be configured to work with a variety of sensors, be configured for different outputs, and can be powered from a real universal power.

The I3 and I4 isolated converters perform an excellent acquisition of the original signal, and convert the signal to standard 4/20 mA or 0/10 Vdc process signals, in a safe and isolated way, free of surges and transients. They can work with different sensors, and can work in a power range from 18 to 265 Vac / Vdc. Its function is clear: to protect the inputs of the PLC and to separate the PLC from the periphery sensor circuits.

The I3 and I4 isolated converters facilitate the commissioning and verification tasks thanks to the “Force” function. Additionally, the isolated converters of the I4 series offer front reading of the input and output values, useful in verification and maintenance processes.

Not only you will be able to change the sensor or input signal type, but you will also use the same instrument in your entire range of machinery. All without stopping your process.

Your architecture will be easier to maintain, and your spare parts easier to find, common and inexpensive.
