George Prokopiou acquires the Skaramangas Shipyards

The Skaramangas Shipyards are awarded to George Prokopiou for a total price of €62.5 million, as the Greek shipowner was declared the highest bidder in both tenders conducted by ETAD and ENAE.

More specifically, the Hellenic Public Properties Company (ETAD S.A.) announced that the Electronic Open Bidding Process for the sale of its property at the Skaramangas Shipyards was successfully completed today. The companies ‘MILINA ENTERPRISES COMPANY LTD’ and ‘PYLETECH INDUSTRIES MAE’ participated in the tender.

“According to the results of the tender and the decision of the CEO of ETAD, the final highest bidder was the company ‘MILINA ENTERPRISES COMPANY LTD,’ owned by Greek shipowner Mr. George Prokopiou, with a financial offer amounting to €37,316,041.88 — 21.5% higher than the starting price of the tender, which was €30.7 million.

Immediately after the completion of the tender process, the CEO of ETAD, Mr. Stefanos D. Vlastos, stated:

“Today, we at the Hellenic Public Properties Company have every reason to be proud, as we have successfully completed the tender process for the development of a landmark property of great national importance in a way that is highly beneficial to the Greek State and vital for the economic growth of our country.”

The thorough preparation and execution of this tender was a significant challenge, which we successfully met with a sense of responsibility toward the Greek taxpayer, operating with a focus on transparency, fairness, and sustainability. We remained committed to our goal, strictly adhered to the timelines we had set, and—with absolute respect and credibility toward the prospective investors—we managed to achieve a price higher than the starting value.

We hope that the success of this process will serve as a catalyst for the implementation of a significant investment in the coming years, which will act as a multiplier for the Greek economy and the country as a whole.

I would like to thank the ETAD team, which, with high professionalism, consistency, and efficiency, successfully carried out a particularly difficult project within a short period of time,” added the CEO of ETAD.

Mr. Vlastos also thanked all those who contributed to this national effort, making special mention of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Office of the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Development and Investments, the Governor of Attica, the relevant public services, and, finally, the constructive cooperation with Hellenic Shipyards S.A. (ENAE) under Special Administration

In conclusion, the CEO of ETAD wished the new investor every success, emphasizing that ETAD will stand as a supporter in his efforts for the successful implementation of his investment plans

“For my part,” Mr. George Prokopiou stated, “I would like to express my congratulations for the highly professional and, at the same time, transparent process of ETAD’s tender for the sale of Skaramangas.

It is worth noting that, in the tender for Hellenic Shipyards S.A., Pyletech Shipyards submitted a binding offer of €22.1 million, while Forest Grove, owned by George Prokopiou, submitted a binding offer of €25.2 million.

In its announcement, Pyletech states: ‘We are pleased that there are investors who intend to invest their money in Greece, especially in this high-risk sector. We wish them every success!

“Our investment plan included investments amounting to €700 million and would have created over 1,600 direct and 6,000 indirect jobs. We hope that the investments of the new, successful bidders will exceed ours and prove to be sustainable, for the benefit of Greece.
