Completion of Maintenance Works at the Korinthos Power S.A. Power Generation Plant, part of the Metlen Group

C&A Stavros Kassidiaris S.A. recently completed a series of maintenance works at the facilities of Korinthos Power S.A., a 437 MW Combined Cycle Unit of the Metlen Group. The scope of work included:

  • • Resistance and Insulation Resistance Measurements: Measurements were carried out on transformers, motors, and generator poles to ensure the optimal operational condition of the systems.
  • • Equipment Cleaning: Cleaning was performed on transformers, motors, circuit breakers, and the generator to ensure their uninterrupted and efficient operation.
  • • Inspection and Replacement of Sensors: Functionality checks were carried out on various sensors and measuring instruments. Where necessary, faulty sensors were replaced to ensure optimal system performance.

All work was carried out in collaboration with and under the guidance of the engineers at Korinthos Power S.A., ensuring compliance with the highest standards of quality and safety.

As part of its regular efforts to update and validate the quality and durability of its constructions, C&A Stavros Kassidiaris S.A. carried out a series of inspections and tests through accredited laboratories—KDEP (Center for Testing, Research, and Standards) and LABOR S.A.—in accordance with the international standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017

The inspections were carried out on a 4,000A power and automation panel, which was studied, designed, and manufactured by our experienced technicians. Following the initial internal quality control, the panel was thoroughly examined in accordance with the updated EN 61439-1 and EN 61439-2 standards, which define the requirements for low-voltage electrical distribution systems and switchgear assemblies.

The tests required by these standards include:

  • • Temperature rise tests
  • • Dielectric tests at industrial frequency voltage
  • Long-term durability tests of insulating materials
  • • Protective circuit effectiveness tests
  • • Protection tests against external influences (IP Code)
  • • Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests
  • • Mechanical strength tests
  • • Material strength tests
  • • Verification of clearance and creepage distances
  • • Short-circuit withstand tests

Short-circuit current tests were carried out with a current of 52 kA and a peak current of 124.6 kA. During these tests as well, the panel performed exceptionally and continued to operate without interruption. It is important to note that a particularly high level of structural resilience is required to successfully endure the duration of such a test.

Following all inspections, the panel received full approval and certification.

C&A Stavros Kassidiaris S.A. is the only company in the maritime sector that offers panel constructions with such high test resistance.

C&A Stavros Kassidiaris S.A., in collaboration with ELTRAK S.A., has successfully completed another power and automation electrical panel construction project.

The project took place on a container ship in China, aiming to upgrade the existing generators and, consequently, enable the transport of larger cargo loads.

The study, design, and execution of the project were carried out with utmost precision and efficiency. All necessary inspections were conducted to ensure the safe connection of the electrical panels to the vessel, fully meeting the additional requirements for transporting the increased load.

Following a new assessment based on the internationally applied ‘Evaluation of Security Measures Implementation’ method, C&A Stavros Kassidiaris S.A. has recently renewed its certification as an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO). The audit was conducted by the General Secretariat for Information Systems and Digital Governance

Obtaining AEO status certifies that the economic operator meets specific criteria:

  • Compliance with tax and customs legislation.

  • Completeness and accuracy of internal procedures.
  • Ability to meet its financial obligations. Security and protection measures implemented both within the company and in its dealings with business partners.

C&A Stavros Kassidiaris S.A. has signed a contract with NAVAL GROUP for the construction of power and automation electrical panels

The project concerns the frigates currently under construction for both the Hellenic and the French Navy.

C&A Stavros Kassidiaris S.A.’s successful distinction was preceded by an evaluation process based on NAVAL GROUP’s particularly strict standards across all aspects of project execution, including equipment, materials, expertise, environmental management, development strategies, corporate governance, certifications, and after-sales service capabilities.

As a result of the above evaluation, the company received an excellent score: 94.3 out of 100.

Reconstruction work on a Bulk Carrier

C&A Stavros Kassidiaris S.A. has recently carried out a reconstruction project on a Bulk Carrier

Background: Before the repair, the vessel had experienced water ingress in two of the three engine room levels, rendering it inoperative.

With many years of experience in the design and manufacturing of electronic, electrical, and pneumatic automation systems—from research and development to final production. C&A Stavros Kassidiaris S.A. undertook all necessary actions for the replacement and addition of new equipment, as well as the overall completion of the project.

The following tasks were carried out to restore proper operation:

  • Removal of the old and installation of a new 200-point Alarm Monitoring System (AMS) (main engine, generators, etc.) featuring Siemens PLC hardware and display screens (HMI) installed in the Engine Control Room (ECR) and Wheelhouse (W/H).
  • Construction and installation of a new panel for the Maneuvering System.
  • Replacement of the Fire Alarm System and Water Mist System using Tyco equipment. Additionally, construction of various engine room panels.

The work lasted approximately eight months, and the vessel was delivered fully operational.

Replacement of Air Circuit Breakers on Hellenic Navy vessels

Overview

Several Hellenic Navy vessels, built prior to the year 2000, were experiencing issues with their electrical panels.

Specifically, the generator air circuit breakers (ACBs) manufactured by SIEMENS, with which the vessels were originally equipped, are now out of production and no longer supported with spare parts.

The situation was being managed through frequent improvised and unreliable repairs.

The Hellenic Navy launched a series of tenders for their replacement, but these efforts yielded no results.

Approach

C&A STAVROS KASSIDIARIS S.A., certified by the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence and NATO for Defence Industry Projects, provided a solution to the impasse by undertaking the supply, installation, wiring, and full commissioning of new air circuit breakers of equivalent capacity to the original ones. The new breakers were manufactured by HYUNDAI ELECTRIC, which the company exclusively represents in Greece.

The work was completed within the scheduled timeframe and without affecting the operational readiness of the vessels.

Similar replacement projects, involving the substitution of outdated circuit breakers with breakers from HYUNDAI ELECTRIC, have also been carried out for other brands of electrical equipment whose products are no longer supported or have excessively long delivery times. In addition to the Hellenic Navy, such installations have also been successfully implemented on vessels in the deep-sea shipping sector.
